Local Sandbach residents have presented the Head and Neck Cancer and Maxillofacial units at Leighton Hospital with over £1,000 for the benefit of head and neck cancer patients.
Mr Eddie Kingswell and his wife Shirley, who has recently recovered from throat cancer, have been fundraising for the past 12 months to thank the units for the excellent care and support Shirley has received.
Mr Kingswell, who is Master of Sandbach Freemason Lodge (Samaritan Lodge 368), and his wife have held Sunday lunches, a barn dance and a Ladies Night, amongst other activities, and nominated both units to receive the Masters Funds.
“I am delighted to help,” said Eddie, “We want to show our appreciation and ensure that anyone with a cancer diagnosis has access to the highest quality care available.”
Speaking about the donation, Margaret Doyle, Macmillan Head & Neck Specialist Nurse at Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We are truly grateful to Shirley and Eddie. It is fantastic sum of money to receive and we will use it to help improve the lives of local people who have been affected by head and neck cancer.”
