Central Cheshire - Achieving Financial Stability

4 September 2017

Open letter from our health system leaders

The NHS health system across Central Cheshire is working together to achieve financial stability, whilst at the same time ensuring the best possible outcomes for our local patients.

Healthcare locally and nationally is evolving and we can’t simply do what we have done before. We have to find new ways to meet the changing needs of our patients and it is essential that the healthcare we commission (buy) and provide is the right care for our population, given at the right time and in the right places.

We are one of 14 areas in England that are now working under what is known as a ‘Capped Expenditure Process’ or CEP. The introduction of the CEP in Central Cheshire is one way in which we’re working to address our financial challenge. This process brings all local NHS organisations – our local health ‘system’ - together to collectively deliver our Connecting Care strategy and vision of working to improve health and wellbeing.

The CEP looks across at all local healthcare budgets and drives a change to promote collaborative working across the whole health system, rather than individual organisations. This means that, rather than looking at just our own finances, everyone is working together to make best use of every penny and ensure every ‘Cheshire pound’ is well spent to bring all of our budgets in line.

By working together and looking at things differently our approach will be to look at new and different ways we can use our budgets to deliver the same quality care and outcomes for Central Cheshire patients.

This open letter is the first of many that we will share with you and aims to ‘set the scene’ of our collaborative working and joint approach to the CEP across Central Cheshire. As our plans develop over the coming months, and we have proposed changes to share, you will hear more from us.

You can find out more about our plans by taking a look at NHS South Cheshire CCG and NHS Vale Royal CCG’s Governing Body papers (opens in new window).
